Bill Houghton is a professional freelance trumpet player with over 45 years experience of the music business. He has been one of the world’s leading orchestral trumpet players since the age of 19, when he accepted his first appointment with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Bill was the Principal Trumpet of the BBC Symphony Orchestra for 25 years before leaving in 2007. In his career he has played principal trumpet with all the main London orchestras as well as holding the principal position for the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the English National Opera. He is leader of the London Gabrieli Brass Ensemble and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music.

Bill has travelled the world and has visited 50 separate countries in his extensive career. He is now based in Yorkshire where he enjoys playing 4th principal cornet with the South Yorkshire Police Brass Band in his spare time.
